When the 49ers made Trey Lance the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the hope was that the North Dakota State product would eventually develop into the team's franchise quarterback.Instead, the raw-but-talented 23-year-old may find himself looking for a new home ahead of his third NFL season.On Wednesday, it was reported by that Sam Darnold had beaten Lance to win the 49ers' backup quarterback job behind Brock Purdy.Lance's tumble down San Francisco's depth chart is the latest roadblock in what has been, to date, a frustrating career. He spent his rookie season as the backup behind Jimmy Garoppolo but was expected to start for the 49ers in his second season.However, a broken ankle ended Lance's season in Week 2; and after rookie Brock Purdy's breakout in the second half of the season, his chances of becoming the team's starter all but evaporated.Even still, dropping to No. 3 on the depth chart will be a tough pill for Lance to swallow. There are a handful of teams around the league that could be interested in buying low on the recent first-round pick.Minnesota VikingsThe Vikings stand out as one of the top potential landing spots for Lance. While Kirk Cousins has been a rock-solid starter for the team, he hasn't led them on a deep postseason run as they were hoping. His contract expires after the 2023 season and it isn't clear whether Minnesota will look to retain him ahead of what will be his age-36 season.Lance would provide the Vikings with a potential succe sor to Cousins and bolster the team's quarterback depth chart with more upside than it currently has. Cousins' current backups are 28-year-old journeyman Nick Mullens and rookie fifth-round pick Jaren Hall, who has struggled this preseason and is actually two years older than Lance.Meanwhile, getting to work with another bright, young, offensive-minded coach like Kevin O'Connell would likely appeal to Lance. Ryan Tannehill is a free agent after the 2023 season and while the Titans have spent consecutive Day 2 picks on Malik Willis and Will Levis, Lance still has a higher ceiling than either as a prospect.It's also noteworthy that the Titans' new general manager Ran Carthon was part of the 49ers' front office from 2017 to 2022. And notably, he served as the team's director of player personnel starting in 2021 when the team Derrick Rose Jersey spent a first-round pick on Lance.If Carthon was among Lance's supporters in San Francisco, he might be happy to swing a buy-low deal to add him to the quarterback room. The only question would be whether the Titans would be comfortable rostering four quarterbacks or if they would look to trade one of Tannehill, Willis or Levis to offset the acquisition of Lance.MORE: Atlanta FalconsThe Falcons who are coached by former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith could be the type of team interested in acquiring one of Tannehill, Willis or Levis if they shook loose. Seeing them pursue Lance also wouldn't be a surprise.Atlanta has, arguably, the least-proven quarterback room in the NFL. It's currently comprised of starter Desmond Ridder, backup Taylor Heinicke and third-stringer Logan Woodside. Combined, they have made 29 starts (25 by Heinicke) and have a 14-14-1 record overall.Lance is no more proven than the trio of Falcons quarterbacks, but the team was rumored to be interested in him ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. As such, general manager Terry Fontenot could be interested in adding Lance on the cheap and having him compete with Ridder to be the team's long-term starter.At the very least, Lance would add some true competition to an otherwise light-looking quarterback depth chart.Miami DolphinsThe Dolphins represent another connection to the 49ers, as Mike McDaniel worked with Lance in 2021 when he was San Francisco's offensive coordinator. Lance had to start a couple of games that season because of injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo, so he should know the quarterback's skill set well.If McDaniel is a fan of Lance, he could see an opportunity to add another talented, young quarterback to his team's roster. Tua Tagovailoa has proven himself as the team's quarterback of the future, but his concu sion i sues had some wondering whether he would retire from the league after the 2022 NFL season.With that in mind, McDaniel may want a long-term insurance policy behind Tagovailoa in case he continues to be injury-prone. Lance could be just that and at the very least, his tools would Wendell Carter Jersey be an upgrade over those of oft-injured backup Mike White and third-stringer Skylar Thompson.MORE: Tampa Bay BuccaneersThe Buccaneers are another team with an unproven quarterback depth chart. Baker Mayfield is set to lead the team with Kyle Trask serving as his backup to start the season. Behind them is John Wolford, whose status is in question after being carted off with a neck injury during a preseason game.If Wolford is out long-term, the Buccaneers will need to add a third quarterback to their roster. Given the uncertainty they have at quarterback, going after Lance would be a sensible choice.Lance could compete for the starting job throughout the season with Mayfield and Trask; and given the work offensive coordinator Dave Canales did with Geno Smith last season, there would be reason for optimism Otto Porter Jr. Jersey about Lance living up to his potential.At the very least, the Buccaneers should consider swinging for the fences with a Lance trade. Replacing Tom Brady isn't going to be an easy task, so it's best to have as many high-end options as po sible to fill the GOAT's shoes.Los Angeles RamsIt doesn't seem likely that the 49ers will trade Lance within the division, but if they did, the Rams would be a good landing spot for the 23-year-old.Sean McVay got the most out of Jared Goff during his time with the team before helping Matthew Stafford lead the team to a Super Bowl win. Suffice to say that few coaches will have the ability to get as much out of Lance as McVay potentially could.Further, the Rams could use an upgraded third quarterback, as Brett Rypien and Dre ser Winn are currently behind Stafford and Stetson Bennett IV on the depth chart.
